Scholarship 

Our dear friend Sandra Richardson died at Marie Curie Liverpool on Wednesday the 25th of August 2021. Sandra lived with Stage 4 breast cancer for 3 years and kicked proverbial arse her entire life. She was and will always be our Shero.

Friends and family of San have established a scholarship at the Marginal Publishing house in her memory. This scholarship will support queer young people to embark on a 12-month mentoring program inclusive of 1-2-1 coaching, training, and guidance in all aspects of publishing including illustration, creative writing, character design, storyboarding, and editorial management with the aim of publishing a book at the end of the 12-month period. Scholarship recipients will also receive support, exhibition space at Aspen Yard, and advice from Clare Beloved, San’s magic, and quite frankly kickass wife!  Scholarship applications will be available through the Marginal Publishing House Website in early October 2021.

San impacted positively on thousands and thousands of young people’s lives and was simply loved by everyone she met. She was the first person to ever believe in Comics Youth and commissioned us to work with young people in Knowsley. She believed in us when no one else did and taught us to lead with a compassionate heart. As a poet and activist, she was unparalleled.

She fought for LGBTQIA youth and made spaces for people to belong. Spaces where young people weren't just numbers to be counted. Spaces where they were loved for who they were. Who they aspired to be against all else. She held our hands when we struggled to see light in such a broken system and gave us the spark to carry on.  We wouldn't be who we are without her love and guidance. Our publishing house wouldn’t exist without her input. Not at all.

Your donation will enable a queer young person to not only flourish from the margins of society, but San’s name will live on through young people’s achievements. The money raised will go directly into providing monetary support to the young people themselves.
